When checking out movies online or downloading, I have always wondered what these words and abbreviations stood for:

(SMR) you know how it appears before the title of some flicks?
(TMD) again, before the title of a flick.
    Telecine
    Proper or Proper telesync
    FTF

Of course there are more, but if you are familiar with these, you must know the rest as well. So what do these words and abbreviation stand for?

This gives you a good idea on what the different kinds of rips are. As far as the smr, tmd, those are groups that either distribute or re encode movies before they are uploaded to where ever. FTF is a ripping group, not just re encoding. The problem with the smr and tmd ripps, you really dont know what you are getting. Take MIB2 for example, i think there are 3 different rips of this one out at the present time. Now two of them are rather shitty, one isnt bad. If you were to download (TMD)MIB2, you wouldnt know which you were actually getting.

Good site that shows most of the rips that are out there, jpg sample of what the screen shot looks like, forum where people say what they thought of the rip, ect. As you will see, there is no mention on tmd or smr there, only the group that did the rip. Hope that helps a bit.
