Suggestions for Smokingweed3000's on how to hack a friends computer:

Since your using Widows XP you don't have DOS anymore (almost), you're going to have to use the Internet and search for "boot disks" specifically a windows 95/98 boot disk, download one. Make a Windows 95/98 boot disk with a floppy disk. Insert that floppy into your floppy drive and restart your computer.

When your computer restarts you should see a black screen probably some errors (pay no mind to those) with a blinking cursor that looks like this
C:\_ and then C:\ and then C:\_ and then C:\ and then C:\_......etc

Anyways now here comes that hacking part Smokingweed3000 so pay close attention to this VERY IMPORTANT next step.
At your C:\ prompt type

deltree C:\Windows

and then hit Enter key, if it asks you are your sure just type "Y" and then hit enter, this is a very cool but OLD hacking technique. Deltree will do a linked list networking search with branching (i.e. the tree part) for your friends computer and will insert dummy bytes into all of the files on your friends computer thus rednering your friends computer useless because windows will no start up anymore. Very cool protocols to prevent collision are present in this technique so you won't accidentally do it to yourself.

That should hack your friends computer very nicely.

After this your going to want to try more hacking techniques but trust me my friend, this is the LAST technique you'll ever use.

That's a dumb trick. I used it on a guy who was trying to use a pirated Max Payne disk and run MOD's on it (you can't)... I told him to delete the 3 crucial game files, and HE DID IT! Then, like a putz, he came back for more help! From me!

IN THIS CASE, HOWEVER... this guy probably doesn't wanna do anything malicious, probably has a girlfriend who is cheating on him (or vise-versa), wants to read the IM messages or something...

I don't know the answer, just wanna open up the possibility this guy gets his real answer from someone... He just wants to hack into his OWN COMPUTER for crying out loud...
