  1. I was happily capturing very good quality MPEG2 720 x 480 video with my ATI AIW Radeon until I decided to change my HD and install Windows and all software again. Much to my surprise, now I cannot capture ANY video without massive frames dropping. WHY? As before, I have a boot setup just for the capturing sessions (lots of things disabled), no resident programs loaded, DMA, 7200 rpm HDs and all that stuff. It's exactly the same machine as before and the HD to which I'm sending captured files is still the same. I don't know where to look for problems anymore. Yes, I've got DirecX 8.1 and ATI's most recent updates installed and all.
What's the magic? It's funny to be having these problems again just one day after I captured a two hour MPEG2 video with NO frames dropped.

    Any hints?

    Marcos.

  2. You might want to defrag the HD - and if you have a VIA chipset, you'll need the latest chipset drivers.
Is the CPU usage close to 100% when you capture ?
If so, lower the motion estimation setting in the MPEG capture profile.

  3. Thank you Sulik.
Well, I did defrag the almost empty HD (I use it just for the captures) and the CPU usage I'm using is just the same I was using before with excellent results. I build lots of SVCDs from my home videos and from TV shows and stuff, and even captured with DVD quality with no frames dropped, as I said before. Now I get over 40% frames dropped!!!

Well, I'm sorry, maybe I missed this. Yes, it's a Via Chipset. What are these drivers??

Thank you again for any other hints... I already regret having reinstalled Windows...
