    Not sure where to post this -
    But was thinking of getting this to back up my VHS movies.
    Has anyone heard about this, or is this too good to be true?
    Or??

  3. Hmmm.. good to know there are more out there.
    I need MPEG2 quality.
    If it was only MPEG1, I might as well keep them on VHS., no?

    Yeah but Mpeg2 is'nt convienent or very practical.Like a VCD can hold 80 minutes nice quality video.But Mpeg2 which is SVCD.Can only hold like 30 minutes on 1 Cd-r.

    Near-DVD quality or not,It would take like 4 SVCD's to capture one 2 hour movie.5 SVCD's If it's over 2 hours.Which is stupid.

    Where as VCD only needs 2.Which is very usefull,since I've tottally forsaken video tapes.

    Yeah there's a bunch things that can do that stuff.

    There is the Dazzel Digital Video creator II,but It costs like $100 more,needs a auctual internal video card to be installed.The only thing It can do that the DVC 1 can't is record SVCD.So It's not worth It.

    Also the much cheaper Digital Video creator 80,for like only $50.But It can't output to anything.

    There is also the Creative Video Blaster moviemaker which looks okay and does both VCD and SVCD.But It can output to vcd or anything,and I've heard It dos'ent work with Windows Xp.

  5. So (forgive me, I am a newbie)

    MPEG1 = VCD
    MPEG2 = SVCD

    Is that right?

    SVCD better, but larger file?
    Is that about right?

    Yeah I'm a newbie to this particular forum,but have had much experience on the subject of VCD/SVCD.

    Yes VCD/Mpeg1,is about as good as videotape quality and can hold more.SVCD/MPEG2 is pretty great and close to DVD quality.But that great quality takes up a lot of memory/MB's/file size.Making It nice but very inconvient.
