  1. Hi everybody:

I have an AverTV card, which works OK in Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 but it gives me lots of interferences, even using a very good TV signal.

These interferences appear as an effect of "rain" over the picture, it doesn't depend on what is the TV channel selected. They don't appear when I select the Composite Video Input in the capture card, it's only present when tuning a TV channel.

I have tried to attach an amplifier to the TV signal but it didn't improved at all the picture quality; I have also connected a VCR directly to the TV card using a TV cable, and the same behaviour appears: like a "rain" over the picture, little white interferences forming almost vertical lines in the image.

I have posted a couple of images to see if anybody has experienced the same and can help me, because I'm desperated:

1.- This the OSD menu of my VCR sent to the AverTV card using the TV aerial signal; the interference can be appreciated:

2.- This is the same OSD menu from the VCR to the AverTV card but using the composite connection (taken from the Scart connector of the video and sent to the composite video input of the TV card):

3.- The same interferences but using a single grey image from the VCR (using TV signal):

4.- The same grey image from the VCR to the TV card using composite input:

    Please, can anybody help?

    Thanks in advance,

    Alberto.

  2. Come on, I can't believe that nobody else has seen this problem in any BT878 card!!!!

I have read in other forums that these problems are caused by a bad grounding in the main board of the TV card, and that it can be solved by doing a little soldering on the card.

Somebody else have read the same? Somebody can point to the solution?

This problem has also been reported as the "Eight Vertical Noise Bars of Death" (you can read it here):

And here you got some samples explaining this problem:

The noise that you are seeing when using the composite doesn't appear all that bad. I get similar noise using my AverTv Stereo card when capturing from a VCR. I never use the tuner which seems to give the worst signal. You may try using the Svideo input as I have found this to be the best (cleanest) input. Most of the captures I am doing are from old VHS tapes so there is noise in them anyway and, with the help of filters, I can get the signal fairly clean.

What I want to know is what is the correct link to the soldering fix that is in the link that you gave:

    Update:
Here is the link although there is nothing of interest concerning the AverTV card as the majority of the thread is talking about a Zoltrex card.
