  1. I grabbed some dv videos i made to avi (with ulead mediapro). here i did some editing, wrote a new avi (also with dv codec) and with tmpgenc plus i encoded this to svcd ( constant bitrate (standard bitrate )) higest quality (slowest).
when i play the mpg on the comp it plays ok, if i burn it with nero to svcd

it plays ok (and in great quality) but at certain places it freezes a second, and after it continues where it stopped, but now out of sync.

i tried 2 different cds and the freezes where in the same place so i think its in the mpg or the avi. i watched svcds before on the standalone so i doubt he is the guilty.

thanks in advance for any help.

i read about the divx freezes, but i never use divx codecs so, i doubt this is related. i encode the audio from a seperate wav file in tmpenc.

Sounds like a classic bitrate problem.

Are you playing from the physical CD on your PC to check it ? - is this OK ? Or are you playing the MPG direct from the HD ?

If the SVCD CD itself plays fine on your PC - then the problem must be with your DVD player or Media (PC is less fussy than your DVD)

If you go above the standard 2520 Kbit/sec for SVCD then your player may freeze as you have experienced. If you have encoded to 2520 then try lowering it even further ?

  3. the first time i encoded at 2520

i tried your tip and put 2300 this time and the problem reduced. The first try it happened 15 times in 10 minutes
now it only happened one more time.
i'll see what happens when i encode at 2000, i hope the quality will still be acceptable. (it is the same rewritable , so i don't think its the media, i also tried a non rewritable the first time)

    thanks for the tip
