Ok.. i have ripped dvd to HD many times before and converted to mpg for viewing..etc.. i finally got a dvd-r and i got an anime dvd.. Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust.. i wanted to try making a copy of it.. all i want is the main movie.. and i was going to make a new menu by using DVDit. Well.. i used dvd decrypter moved the .vobs of the main movie to HD.. then using infoedit to make new .ifo file..etc.. tried that one.. doesnt work.. so tried it again today.. used smart ripper to get the .vobs to the HD.. tried editing the .ifo with infoedit.. and i just cant get it..So i was reading posts in the forum and on the usergroups and someone said i could change the extension or the .vobs to .mpg and then use DVDit to create the movie by loading just those .mpgs.. well i did it.. and while in DVDit i tested it.. everythign was linked right.. i was like cool.. so i wanted to use it to make a 'test' by making the dvd to the HD in the VIDEO_TS dir.. so after it did all this stuff.. i loaded it up in powerDVD and it went to my menu.. looked as if it was gonna work.. hit play.. it started.. yes.. its working.. then i realize.. no sound.. WTF

has anyone had any sucess with this particular dvd.. its dual layer.. but i dont need all the extra stuff.. most of which is dumb anyways.. trailers and such.. the main movie .vobs are smaller then 4.7gb so this should work...
PLEASE i need help... i cant seem to get this to work and already got 1 coaster and 2 tries on HD didnt work either..
Thanks in advance for any help..

If this method works, it will save me a lot of time as well as I also use DVDit. If anyone out there can comment on why audio is not coming through it would be appreciated.
One thing that I usually do for dual layer is just go in SmartRipper, select 'files', select 'all' and then de-select files starting at the bottom until the file size is 4.5G or so. RIP to HD and then play it off HD to make sure I got the main movie. Then burn to DVD. Usually the trailers and other crap are the last files. -
the only thing i gather is that i have to take the vobs and rip the video and audio out.. then back in dvdit put them back together.. seems there would be an easier way
so i can make my own menu..etc.. but still keep the vobs the same.. or something.. anyone?

You probably have multiple audio tracks in your converted ".MPGs" which DVDit has no idea what to do with (I believe that it will only import a single audio track). Try stripping out a .M2V video elementry stream and the .MPA audio elementry stream of your choice and feeding these into DVDit. You will probably have much better luck.

Derrow talks of joining VOBs from different movies and then using IFOEDIT to syntehsize new IFO files. Go to his site and read the 'join clips' tutorial. I have followed the instructions but can't get the resulting file to play back.
What is the easiest way to take an .mpg (audio+video) file and separate it into an .m2v and .mpa file? -
Simple and easy way to do it (you will lose the 5.1 though) is to rip the movie with DVDx (set formatting to 720x576 (if PAL)) and then rip. This gives you an Mpeg. The open TNPGenc and recode so the audio is 48khz... load to DVDit, create ya chapters and add the opening screen and whatnot... create and burn.
If the file is too big, drop the VBR during either the initial pass, or when converting with TMPGenc.
Saves all the ifo editing, or decrypting and gives a good rendition (as I mentioned though, you lose the 5.1 which is the only draw back) -
i finally just got tired of messing w/it.. trying to make my own menu and using dvdit and got no sound.. so redid it.. w/o menus.. ripped everything.. and burnt it.. works.. but my apex 600 wont play it.. sits there and loads..
but plays perfect on dvdrom and in my ps2
Thanks for the help.. -
I figured this out - how to edit a movie with VOBedit. This avoids having to re-encode with TMPGenc etc.
I have successfully used this method to join clips from different movies as well.
1. Use SmartRipper in backup file mode to RIP all files. Do not use movie mode as this method will not work with the resulting VOBs.
2. Open VOBedit, open a VOB from the movie, click demux and select 'cell id' and 'demux entire title set'. The demux converts a VOB into component cell-ids. So VTS_01_1.VOB is translated into VTS_01_001.VOB, VTS_01_002.VOB etc. Move all the demuxed VOBs into a new directory.
3. Startup DVD2AVI and load up only the demuxed VOB files. Determine what you need and don't need.
4. Delete the demuxed VOB files you don't need.
5. Re-number the demuxed VOB files VTS_01_001.VOB to VTS_01_00n.VOB (where is n is the number of the last VOB, so if you have14 VOB files, it will be 14).
6. Start VOBedit, open the first VOB file and select the 'join clips' menu item. (See Derrow's guides for more info). VOBedit remuxes the clips so that you are left with VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_m.VOB (since each re-muxed VOB file is 1G or less, you will typically have 4 or 5 such files).
7. Start IFOedit and click on 'generate title set'. Then open an IFO file and click 'get VTS sectors'.
8. You are done! The resulting movie will immediately start playing when opened. Chapter indexing is preserved.
Very, very cool!
Derrow's tools are amazing - this is based on 'joining different VOBs' - http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/joinclip.html
