  1. I just got a spanking new ADVC-100 because I was tired of having interference from my HDD messing up my captures. So I hooked it up, stared IntroDV (already had that since I also have a Panasonic DV camera). and captured a bit of TV. Looked great! No sound.

So I tried again with Windows Movie Maker. Looked great! No sound.

I have "locked audio" enabled and 48 kHz, 16 bit sound enabled with the dip switches (also changed the NTSC signal to North Ameria).

I am using a Pyro Firewire card. Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

How are you capturing your TV? Is it through your video? If its your video is audio definitely being outputted on your phono connectors? Check this by linking them to a stereo.

Download AVI_IO and try this for capture. Have a look in the tools section for a link?

Is your audio volume up on your computer?

Also your camcoder software probally waiting for a timecode before it begins capture. This will not be provided by your bridge so you have to use alternative software.

  3. This may sound dumb...but did you connect the audio cables also not just the video cables ? The other is to check the properties of the Sound Manager in the Task bar and see what option you have checked for feeding audio to your sound card (ex. auxiliary,line-in,cd-audio,microphone etc.) Play with those and see if it works.

  4. Well, the audio cables are carrying sound; if I plug them into an adapter and then into the line in on my sound card, I can listen to the TV. However, if I connect them to the audio in jacks on the ADVC-100 and then try to do a DV capture, there is no sound.

I don't think sound manager is relevant: if I understand correctly, the ADVC is supposed to combine the video and audio inputs, create a DV data stream from them and send it to my firewire card.

Can I use AVI_IO for DV "capture"? I thought I had to use an app that undertood DV streams?

I hope someone can help me here -- I had thought the ADVC-100 was going to be the silver bullet.

AVIO can be used for DV capture. The authors have put DV code into it. Try this, the shareware version has some limitation but works.

You really should consider getting some proper DV editing software.

The Camcoder software is only for your camera it might be waiting for a timecode and might not work with your bridge.

  6. Well, I don't think IntroDV or Microsoft Movie Maker are waiting for a time code, since they are capturing video fine -- it's just that there is no audio. I should perhaps add that neither of those software packages came with my camera (it didn't come with software). My firewire card came with some editing software, but I don't use it.. I think it was Ulead VideoStudio.

I will definitely give AVI_IO a try. Thanks.

  7. I also bought the ADVC-100 and have no major problems with Audio when using Premiere 6, MS MovieMaker, Cyberlink-PowerDirector2, RealMedia Web Clips, WMP8 Web Clips, BUT I do have no audio for

Cyberlink PowerVCR2. I do not know what it means.

    Here are 2 products:
Cyberlink Power Director2-Captures Audio and Video Perfectly but no audio during capture preview.

Cyberlink PowerVCR2 no audio, not able to get the ADVC signal most of the time, crashes too often.

    -------------
    In addition:

Premiere 6 Audio distorted during "preview capture" but comes-out perfect in the final product.

I also have issues with SoundForge 5 a semi-pro audio app. It sometimes playsback distorted audio until you re-boot. This has nothing to do with the ADVC but just to show you not to readily blame the ADVC too readily.

The SoundForge is OK since it seldom happens and is very fixable. The Premiere 6 is an annoyance that I have not figured out.

It could be in my case WindowsXP and how it behaves with these apps. . It could also be the Audigy Audio Card w/ bugs, or it could be the software in other cases
    ------------------------

By using the ADVC I can get both audio and good picture capture as the end product, so I would not be too discouraged. Most applications should work just fine.
