I like Windows XP Pro on a 866MHZ Dell laptop.

Few errors once you install the application compatibility hotfix.

Windows XP is quite nice, if still slighty buggy (by slightly I mean in an MS sort of way which is to say ALOT of bugs, but not as many as one would usually suspect) Win2k is ultimate right now for stability but the Service Pack 1 for XP should be out in the next 6 months and if they do a good job XP might just give 2k a run for its money... just don't install either on a wimpy machine and you'll be fine.

TGPO: While I admit that OSX is great and in fact its what I'm using to browse the board as we type I also assumed he was looking for a PC OS since he is currently using Windows ME.

Yeah I kinda figured that, but I just like inserting Apple into the forum every now and again.

  9. I would say win98SE. I use and and like it. WinXP looks good but I will wait a year or so, so they can work out MOST of the bugs in her. And win2000 I have messed with and its okay if you want a stable system to do work or networking on. But its kinda limited in the gaming and multimedia department.

  10. Win98SE has my vote, also. Anyway, it's easy to reload when you have to reformat your hard drive (and you will).

  11. i give my vote to xp (even though i voted for the dos622/win31 combo earlier).. its more rugged and stable.. 98se crashed on me all the time, although it was easy to format & reinstall, i was doing that about once every 3 or 4 months.. i just got like 7 months out of my first xp install.. albeit it was the home edition, i'm installing xp pro corporate (with the new cdkey so i can install the updates and such).. and throughout my use of xp, its just a far superior operating system.. not to mention you have NTFS support..

98se is nearing 6 years old.. 98, 99, 00, 01, 02.. its time to put this o/s out to pasture for any kind of real use.. its just too old.. i mean, you can give it to inner city kids who will play for the news camera's like they're learning..

  12. Windows NT Server. Good for learning about networks and administration no crashing. WinXP Pro if u just want something easy that doesn't crash. Just get something with an NTFS partition.
