Can Winmx (3.2) rule the download world?

Ok I'm not writing this to start an arguement.

I've been waiting for this program to be rleased and wow is it great for music. I downloaded a poular song at 234 kbs. I couldn't beleive my eyes.I then tried a movie and it's ok not as fast as music probably because of name changes and other things. This concept has been used with Imesh. However winmx seems to get movies faster than Imesh, so now it should blow imesh out of the water.

Having said all of that I know some of you guys who are diehard irc fans are going to be flammig mad when you read this. Hey I like irc also. My only gripe is I can't stand it when I wake up in the morning and somehow someway I'm disconnected from mirc. I use irc for movies.

Now just think of it this way if 100 of us all had the same movie file on winmx the download speeds would blow away irc.The song I downloaded only had around 75 users and the speed was 234kbs. I know some of you say no way could this be, but it's true.

All winmx is basically doing is spltting up the file and you are downloading from multiple users all at the same time. So if the file was say 750mb and you were downlding from 100 people that means you would get 75 mb fom each person. Now once you have the movie there are now 101 people with the movie and so on, and so on.

Again I know all to well that some of you will say p2p sucks, but what if the groups who are putting these movies on the web decided to try putting a movie on winmx first instead of news groups or irc. We would all have a good copy of a movie and have it fast.

Just look at it this way I'm sure there are more than 1000 people right now out there who have spiderman. I'm mean seriously there are 5 people downloading it from me right now.

Movie groups aren't going to use P2P programs to release movies for a number of reasons. P2P doesnt offer the control that IRC and FTP etc allow them to have over who can and cant get it. P2P users are generally less respecting of their work than IRC users. Also multiple downloading doesnt help them get any faster download speeds seeing they are the only ones with the movie plus speeds are still faster for them if they send it through other means.

I never looked at it that way about the respect aspect that is.
I just wish I could wake up in the morning and see my my irc downloads done, or that I'm still connected. That is my 2 gripes using irc. I don't understand why I get disconnected ?

It is a little buggy with movies. I've noticed kind of the same thing, but it will get better don't worry. I love it for music it's geat. I've always said that if winmx did what Imesh did I'd love winmx even better. Winmx still has the best selection for music.

I agree with you vcd4me with what you are saying about mp3's and stuff on p2p, that is the only reason I still have them there. Who wants to bother having to look through IRC channels for a song when you can type it in. I also hate it when you leave shit going then come back and find it has stopped but I also find that I get the same problem on p2p and with more frequency, also after a crash I find it easier to recover like a 600 mb file from irc then from p2p where it would usually have been lost

is there anyway to stop the disconnections from irc?
It's getting frustrating. In 3 wees I've only got 3 and a half movies of irc, the rest of the time I get disconnected and when I reconnect and try to get the file again I'm back in line waiting 10 people deep?

it depends on the network(sever) your connected to. If your using dalnet, there are more netsplits, so greater chance of you being cut off. If you really want to know about mirc, send me a msg ill help you out a bit.

Who's the best ever, the Bulls or the Lakers? Everyone will have their own opinion. I used irc, morpheus & grokster, tried sharebear and imesh, now i use winmx. I love irc for pic trading but i hate the power mad Ops. I use grokster a lot for music, well, that and irc i guess. however i dont like all the popups that come along with grokster, imesh, etc... When i first tried winmx i couldnt figure it out, no one would start me or even talk to me. It wasnt until i changed my shared settings to let people see what i had to offer that i started to like winmx. i have a lot of stuff and now it seems like i really dont have much of a problem getting the things i want. i would say winmx isnt so much a sharing network but a trading network. Now as far as" less respecting of their work" i havent a clue as to what that means, people have been very respectful to me as i have to them. The speed racer vids ive ripped seem very popular and people have been most appreciative and i let anyone download them, even if you dont have anything to trade for them. But again, winmx in my opinion is a trading network and if you have few or no files to share it's next to impossible to get anything, at least that was my experience before i shared.

I still love kazaa lite 1.71. I have winmx 3.1, but it seems that everyone has like 30 on que. I also use Direct Connect, maybe once every two months. Kazaa is just lots easier and much faster to get what you want and be done with it.

Have you tried Imesh lately speeds in excess of 70kbs and now that winmx is going about downloading in a similar way they should become everyones faorite p2p real quick.

The problem with winmx is people are still using version2.6 and haven't given version3.2 a try yet. Like I said I downloaded a song at 230kbs

You should try Imesh to see what I mean, and undersand that once people get the hang of the new winmx it should be th best p2p out there.

I think a combo of programs is needed.

Imesh I use for big stuff like full programs and movies, it's selection is limited however.

Kazaa I use for music because I have good luck with music on it. I also use Kazaa for pictures.


Winmx is a backup incase the other 2 crap out or don't have what i want.

That program is absurd. Some hubs require like 120gig share.

Hell I only have 20 gigs.

Where do get Imesh, is it anything like winmx? I use winmx 2.6 . What is different in the 3.2 version? Is it necesary to upgrade to the 3.2?

No what Imesh does is take all the available users with a file and lets you download from them all at the same time for faster speeds. Here is an
example

user speed
joe 20.x kbs
ed 20.x kbs
frank 15.x kbs
jon 22.x kbs

So you would be downloading this file at 77.x kbs. Now just think if 20 or 30 people al had the same file.

Now Winmx is trying to do this but is having problems with the movies , I think it is that there are a few bugs still with the system, and some people are still using old versons, or some people don't get the concept yet.Now the music section of winmx is working perfectly I d/l a song from 75 users at 235kbs and I blinked my eyes an it was done.

Now once it gets going everyone who uses winmx will be excited.Seeing as winmx has more "hits"on any song I have ever looked for and out of all the p2p I have used they get the movies faster.

I'll try that Imesh and get the new version of winmx. From what you said I gather that if it took me 1 hr to dl a tune in ver.2.6 , the time might be cut in half or so, correct? Right now dsl is not in my budget or cable.

in imesh the more stars a file has the better, that means there are a good amount of people online at the same time as you and they have that file you are lookin for.

So yes if you can download from a few people at once then you will get the file in at least in half the time.
