  1. this is the million dollar question~!

I drag the effect onto the clip that I want to set it in and nothing happens!

I can't even crop--I set the crop settings and when I run the clip you can still see the uncropped garbage at the bottom of the frame!

can't get any effects to work right!

    help!!!!!

  2. Usually you need to press 'Enter' in the timeline window to render the affected video clip for the effect to take effect. Hope this helps. If it's a transisitonal effect, you need to place at the right place to see the effect.

  3. do you mean press "enter" on the the screen somewhere or on my keyboard?

when I press "enter" on my keyboard it starts to build the whole video.

still can't figure this problem out,, and I love how Premiere gives you a vague answer at their website

You will need to preview the clip to see the effect. You do that by pressing the enter button.

The yellow line inside the green ring I markt is the area that will be previewed. I guess your preview are is the whole movie and that's way it will start building the whole movie.

Tip: If you double click on the yellow bar area, it will resize itself to the amount of time you can see on the timeline.

The preview will make a new video file. Helpful when exporting. It will not re-render that same area.

  6. well, I'm reading the manual for Premiere and I'm STILL not getting this.

you guys are great for offering some advice but could someone please break it down for me like I was 6 years old??

I've used other editors in past and they all had very easy effect controls but this is a little too complicated for me at 10am!

Well if you dont see any changes even if you make a preview I guess you haven't change any settings in the effect contrl after adding the effect on the clip.

This is what it look like (you need to change it):

Hmm.. what if I should make a guide on how to add effects
