    If I buy a DVD recordable drive (not worried about which of too many formats), does it come region-free? I'm asking because I live in region 2, with family in regions 1 and 4. Can I author a disk for any region, or am I stuck with the manufacturer's choice?

    Buy away... there are no region codes on blanks. Region codes are added during authoring.
