  1. As I read through the different posts on the subject in the search, I' only came across one person who had it working, I tried this method using iuvcr and 3rd party drivers but still no luck on getting video to even be viewable in the players from my capture card.

All I see on the ATI 7.1 tv player was a blue screen, I installed 3rd party drivers now the screen is black. wtf? and when I go to capture from vcr the "video" comes out as a sold mass of half blue/green colour and no audio from the vcr comes out either.

if anybody else has got XP and the ATI TV WONDER VE and has got it to work, I'd love to hear how you did it.

    thanks in advance.

ps. my PC specs are in my profile.

  2. Yep i have the Wonder and XP pro running fine, use the drivers only from MMC 7.1 (do not install MMC itself), and iuVCR. iuVCR can be a bitch to tune for TV but it does work if you know the channel numbers and tune manually...

  3. did you install the ATI drivers first? or just scrapped that whole idea and went straight to mmc?

  4. mmc 7.1 allows you unpack the drivers before you install the mmc. just install the drivers using hardware manager... then install iuVCR...

  5. I have the next level up on the ATI (I have the PCI version). Mine works "fine" on my system. When I say fine, I mean it works, but I hate that I can't get a resolution above xxx x240. I used iuvcr on the 30 day trial and it works pretty decently. I, however, recommend powervcrII. Instead of blowing $140, hit ebay. I got mine for $10 (plus $5 in shipping).

  6. cool
    thanks for the replies.

It's slowly getting to 'working' status for me. I have the PCI version too.
I can see video and hear sound now (mmc 7.1). The video is all lines tho until I press the 'channel surf' button. Then no audio comes out and the video is all choppy. And that's just watching.

When I try to capture using mmc 7.1, everything on the preview works fine but when I check what I captured, there's no vide. arrgh.

well Imma keep trying different things for now.

  7. ok I think I proper fucked this up now after I deleted the stuff mentioned in the "Installing ATI AIW" tutorial.

I get an error msg when starting Windows now:
"atiSServ failed to provide required Interfaces!"

and MMC won't uninstall. I tried repairing it but it won't work. Tried re-installing the drivers, no go. and MMC doesn't work at all now.

most challenging piece of hardware I've EVER encountered...

  8. *update*

I'm gonna try and run ATI TV WONDER VE/128 RAGE PRO on winME now instead of XP. here's the steps I will follow:

    - format ALL drives
    - install ME
    - d/l latest drivers for 128 RAGE PRO install/reboot
    - install MMC 7.1 drivers that comes from www.ati.com
    - put in the actual TV WONDER VE card into unshared IRQ PCI slot.
    - boot system
    - instal Media Centre 7.1/ reboot

anything I missed or should change?
I've never come across a piece of h/w that I couldn't get to work...

  9. Read these before reformating your drive:

  10. I think you're doing a little overkill on the reformatting of the hard drive The guide mentioned in the previous post should run you through on how to delete out all the drivers and then restart clean.

I think I was fortunate on this because I did the normal install of the ATI drivers and then installed MMC and then installed about every new capturing program known to man and have been able to get them to work on my system. It is an emachine 1.2 gig "beater" and it handles everything pretty well.

I have had the no sound issue some times when I tried to capture home movies. What I'd do is switch it to the TV tuner (which would have sound playing) and then switch back to composite and then it would work again.

A word of caution on any of the software that you end up using, don't switch to non-overlay. Whenever I try that using powervcrII, it hoses the system and I have to uninstall the software and reinstall it.

Do you have the trial version of powervcr II installed on your system?
