  1. -Hey!-

I do online trading of VCDs of concerts and therefore deal with all different kinds of VCD players. I was wondering which brand/density of CD-R would you all recommed that would be compatible in most players? I'm currently using Memorex 700 MB CD-Rs. Some people I know claim that they don't work in their players but TDK does. Should I switch to TDK? Is there some weird brand that gets read by more players than others? Is there a brand that is better quality, also? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    -Later!-

  2. No single brand of CD-R media is more "compatible" than any other despite what some people claim.

The main problem are the DVD players out there that are not designed to read CD-R/W type media. These players often read CD-R media poorly/erratically/or not at all.

What combination of media + burner + burn speed will work for any particular player may not work for another.

For DVD players that are designed to read CD-R media and stand-alone VCD players, different brands of media don't usually pose a problem.

I would suggest that you use good quality media from a company that produces their own discs and doesn't OEM the production to a third party. My favourite brands are Kodak Ultima and Verbatim DataLife Plus.

    Regards.

    Should I switch to TDK?
Why are you having problems ?
I burn Maxell CD-R 80XL (16X) at 24X never had a problem, and since they are buy 1 get 1 free at Morrisons, Ill keep on buying them.

Have used a few other brands before, but always come back to Maxell. TDK is as good.

  6. Only a handfull of manufacturing plants/ technologies. A given nameplate, like TDK 700MB 32X CD-R can be made by more than one site under the specifications of TDK. I have found that TDK's from Japan ( Taiyo Yuden) as well as Fuji's are excellent. I have hade frequent issues with Power Calibration errors in Disc-at-once mode with TDK from Taiwan, Maxell, Phillips. When a good rebate offer comes along I buy to the max eligible. I have 6 50 spindles in reserve to keep me burning and my Apex playing for a while
