  1. can some explain me exactly what VFAPI-AVI is.. i'm trying to create menus to (s)vcd's and one tutorial tells me to turn VFAPI on. When I add a MPEG file to TSCV it asks some *.avi file.. what avi file? do i need VFAPI-AVI?

and then another one. When I add a MPEG-2 file to TSCV and I start making chapters (for menus for example) TSCV shows some weird movie length.. For example, a test MPE2 length 3 min, TSCV shows it something like 30 min.. do i have wrong codecs? i have installed Nimo codec pack. everything else works fine with that codec pack.. for example when i installed elecard mpeg-2 player, tmpgenc encoded the files upside down well, that's all. and eventhough this is in the newbie section, i'm not totally newbie i know i could more than the basics.. but, thanks in advance!

Welcome to the frustrating but worthwhile world of TSCV. A strange but ultimately powerful beast. I spent many a sleepless night getting animated menus to work but now, knocking them out at will!

    A quick guide :-

Get all your MPEGs into a single directory. Use DVD2AVI (available in loads of places - search google for it (or even this site). Generate AVIs at 75% quality for each MPEG.

Once done, start a new TSVC project, adding each MPEG (and then the relevant AVI to your CD). Go to the Menu generator, adding each MPEG in turn. Double clicking the MPEG will give you the properties - towards the bottom set the Frame Count to 300 for each MPEG, position it where you want, give it a title etc, and make sure 'All Frames' is checked.

Once all four are done, click 'Create Menu' and enter 400 frames for the menu (hope somebody else adds to this post and tells me a better way!). Follow this through, giving a file name for the menu. Once complete, start a new project, add the new menu MPV file first and then add the MPEGS but this time, hit cancel when asking for AVIs - they are only needed for menu generation.

Good luck - let me know how you get on...

  3. yep, i've noticed that TSCV is quite an interesting program

but, i'll try that as soon as i get off from work i've spent last month or two trying to figure out everything concerning (s)vcd's. i started with no knowledge at all and with time and lots of sweat i now know something and now even more i'll let you know how i'm doing. gotta do couple of test videos. now only have to figure out what's wrong with the codecs and TSCV not showing right movie length with mpeg2s..

    but thanks to you

  6. hello again.

i got the tscv working with the mpeg-2 files. just a codec problem..

but the menu.. it starts creating them after it asks the file name for the menu, it stops. one time it went along just fine, but it didn't save the menu file.. dunno what it is.. if someone wiser than me can explain..
