Hi there, I am attempting to compress a one hour AVI clip (320x240, 29.97fps) down to approximately 200 megs. The lowest I can get is around 400 megs without the quality going to crapola. I've downloaded files on IRC though which are 200 megs and look great. What am I doing wrong? These are old family VHS tapes and the quality is important to me.![]()
Also I'm using DivX 5.0 doing 2 pass compression and 750 bitrate.
Thanks

first of all, i would encode at 24fps.. that right there is a 20% increase in video quality.. secondly, i would use variable bit rate mp3 audio... and thirdly, why only 200mb? if quality is that important to you, use 700mb and burn it to a cd-r..
i havent used divx 5 yet, its still a little too 'iffy' for my liking.. maybe in time.. but a one hour movie should look really great in divx if you do it properly.. and for god sakes man, use 700mb! thats the most critical part.. -
Thanks for replying
I checked for a way to convert to 24fps but I couldn't figure it out. I guess my main question is how some video clips I see have better video quality than mine but are smaller. For example, in the picture below are the two 1 minute clips I'm comparing. Mine is on the left and is 7.8 megs, the one on the right is 3.9. How the heck did he get it to be so small but look better than mine?
