subtitels how to?

hello
im new to vcd and i tried to put on subtitels as u discribed in your manual:"video with subtitels srt'sub to (s)vcd"
and i got a masseg telling me that the *.vdr.avi file is not recognized by tmpgenc software.
help please

Go to tmpgenc; -OPTION
-environmental setting (or Global setting)
-VFAPI plugin

and (increase prioty to 0) for -DirectShow multimedia file reader
-AVI VFW compatibility reader

hello again
i did what u told me it dosent help
if i have an avi file and i would like to encode it to vcd should i first encode the movie and only then add the subtitels or should i encode every thing together, should i make a wav file for the audio first
can any body offer me some more help
