  1. Anyone have any opinions on these 2 cards?

Is there any advantage to having the audio captured by the Osprey 200 over just using a separate sound card and the Osprey 100? For instance: less CPU stress, or better quality?

Do these cards work well in XP, or will I have to move to ME to get high quality with their drivers?

    Thanks in advance.

(any other info would be great too)

  2. I have a Osprey 210, and I use in in WinXp.
I have no problems with dropped frames or anything recording at
    480x480x16colors @ 29.97fps
That's all I can tell ya.

  4. Yes the drivers are pretty good.
It should come with an installation CD with drivers for just about everything except windows xp. But you can use the win2k drivers on the cd for that and go to thier web page and download two updates for windows xp and be good to go.
    Have fun!

for 175bucks you could have almost bought a wintv PVR
and gotten Mpeg2/1 hw encoding ontop of youre bt8x chip

That $150 for WinTV-PVR 250 and has REAL HW Acceleration for MPEG1/2 and can cap 720x480(NTSC) or 576(PAL) al way up 12MBit/sec and dosen't eat up ton of space.
OPS wrong one hehe I was looking at 220 sorry but it still nothing more then BT878 chipset which has NO HW Acceleration what so ever.
fakesky rigth point remains the same you may as well buy $40 TV card like the WinTV GO, I/O Magic and get some thing with add bonus of a TV Tuner to boot.

Being your NTSC user I give a word of WARNING! you not be able cap much pass 320x240 up to 352x240 at best.
NTSC Broadcasts are sent in 2 fields (Top & Bottom) this essentialy makes it 60Fps matching 60Hz and this causes much strain on todays capture cards that have no HW acceleration even with the fastest CPU and harddisk you can buy rigth now, unless your willing to fork over some big bucks to be able to capture in full 60fps for a custom avi capture card which cost a lot more $1000, You will only be able captureing half the resolution for the first field an half the resolution of the second field.
This why I recommend HW MPEG2 capture card like WinTV-PVR 250 which dosen't cost and arm&leg to get high quality video.

  14. The Cybermail video PCI capture card has a BT8x8 chip, and you can find it on ebay for around $25. this card is basically identical to the Osprey 100 (which is actually made by Hauppague, which also make the WinTV card for $50 with the BT8x8 chip).
The Osprey 200 has audio inputs, where the audio and video clock is locked, a plus. This card sells for $80 or so on ebay.

ALL BT8x8 cards can only capture one field in Overlay mode, but can capture both fields in Preview mode in VFW mode, and Tee mode in WDM mode. However, not all software use this second preview mode, like Ulead. The software engineers at Ulead have no idea what Preview and Tee mode are, so the BT8x8 cards and Ulead does not go well together!

However, I have NEVER seen a video capture card/box with the clean and sharp video you get from a cheap BT8x8 card like the Cybervideo or WinTV cards.
