  1. Just been reading the DVD-R section of VCDHelp.com. I am considering buying a DVD-RW, but I am just wandering whether I should wait and get one that can write DVD-9.
Are there any plans for DVD-9 to be released??

  2. Dvd-9 is a manufactured disc where 2 layers are pressed together. I have never heard of a dvd-9 burner or plans for one but it would nice if they would come out with a single layer 8.5 gig dvd-r.

DVD-9 isn't avialable to individual user yet although you can get it for volume purchase( nobody selling single yet) for 100 for $699 at www.meritline.com. If you have standalone dvd recorder, you can some how reduce the bit rate below 2000 to make the recording longer. For regular PC DVD-writer, you can use software like infoedit to split entire DVD-9 movie into 2 DVD-5.

OOPs..one more thing. The guy at the store told me most DVD-writer are compatable with DVD-9(7.4G) but some Pioneer dvd-writers. Its the media that allow you to save more data and of course 240 min of movie.

One thing that ol' Teddy forgot to mention, is that these 9.4GB disks are dual SIDED (not dual LAYERED). Using a DVD-9 label for a dual sided DVD is not using the correct terminology - it refers only to the DUAL-LAYERED version. As for compatibility, any DVD writer that can write a single sided DVD-R can burn a quality double sided DVD-R. You can also buy these in single unit quantities.
