    HI All,

    This is meant primarily for Kwag, but if anyone else can help, great !!!

    I've been using Kwags KDVD template and think that the quality of what it produces for the size is fantastic.

    But I would like to improve on the visual quality. So my questions are;

    Is it worth it to use the KDVD template with 2-Pass VBR ?

    If it is, what would the recomended Min/Max/Ave bitrates ?

    Or would keeping set to CQ and raising the quality above 65 be all I need to do ? And yes, I understand that this would increase the file size.

    Also, does anyone know of a good rule of thumb to use when trying to guesstimate the output file size ?\

    Many thanks in advance.

  2. First things first, if you want to ask Kwag a question, go to his forum at http://www.kvcd.net/forum/ and pose your question there. Now, since I know the answer to your questions, I will answer them. To increase quality, just raise the CQ value as you suggested. As to the filesize issue, I use TMPGEnc to crop out a minute of fast action and encode that to see what the approximate MB/min is going to be. If you want, you can write an AviSynth script that takes five samples from different parts of the movie, and encodes them (say, for example one minute each, then /5 to get an average MB/min value). This works for me, your mileage may vary.

    OK, I'll give it a try.

    THe real question was around if using 2 pass VBR would work better. Regardless of encoding time.

    But I'll go ask that in his forums.

    Thanks

  4. OK, based on my experience, 2-pass VBR does not work better. Many others on this forum have tried it. As an experiment, do the script of the 5 one-minute clips, and try all the options you are curious about to judge for yourself. That way, the results will speak for themselves.
