I need some suggestions on which capture card I should buy to replace my aging Pinnacle DC10plus for making SVCDs of my favorite TV shows. I currently capture live broadcast video at 640x480/both fields and encode to mpeg-2/SVCD using AVIsynth and CCE2.50. The quality is good, but I'd like to move up to something even better.
Before the DC10plus, I used a WinTV (BT878) card with PicVideo's MJPEG codec but the WinTV card added all sorts of noise into the picture and I eventually abandoned this in favor of the DC10plus. I've tried Huffyuv with the same WinTV card, but the results were still worse than the DC10plus.
My current thoughts are along the lines of:
1. ADVC-50 or ADVC-100
2. Pinnacle Studio Deluxe
3. Pinnacle DV500 DVD
I'm also considering the use of a hardware mpeg-2 encoder such as the WinTV PVR 250/350, but I'll probably stay away from a format that doesn't allow me to edit out the commercials with re-encoding.
Anyone have a recommendation based on personal experience? I'd love to see some sample SVCD compliant video clips made from the setups listed above...
Thanks!
