  1. I wish I am in the correct subgroup, if not, but, forgive me please!

I converted DV to VCD/MPEG and wrote it on a CD-R with Easy CD Creator successfully. This VCD can be played on PC/DVD-ROM using popular software such as Media Player, but it can not be recognised/run by my standalone VCD player. Am I missing something or...What about if I write it into SVCD? can svcd be played on standlone VCD player? Please help!

Try burning it to a CD-RW and see if that works.

  3. Thanks, Chaoji! I will try to write into CD-RW this time to see what it will turn up. But, this seems not to be my ultimate solution, since I have a lot work to write and CD-RW is indeed more expensive than the CD-R...Regards!

Have you been able to play vcds on cdr before in the player? From what i have read here and elseware, its not so uncommon vcd players dont take CD-R or -RW.
Well, I am the slime from your video.

  8. ahaa...The version of Adaptec's Easy CD Creator I am using does not support writing vcd but data and music cd. Obviously, the 'vcd' I made was a data cd...silly! Sorry, I should buy a latest Nero. Thanks a lot, Smookingweed3000 and others!

  9. Not that I want to discourage you from buying Nero, but perhaps you should first try out the excellent Freeware VCDEasy which is available from www.vcdeasy.org.

  13. Errr...because its a federal offense?

Why buy the software when you can walk into the store, pull out a gun and steal whatever you want?!

  14. Thanks very much, Freshman, for your suggestion of the VCDeasy! In fact, I have stepped into it already last night but, after installation, I was stopped by the lack of a CDRDAO/ASPI layer in my PC, for which I have been strugling on... I have found the guide at VCDeasy web site and I will start to ready through, hopefully I can manage myself. If not, however, I will come back to your kinders...Thanks again

  15. You can use ForceASPI to install the Adaptec ASPI layer onto your PC. It is technically "bandit-ware" but since Adaptec now releases their ASPI layer free for download on their website, I think it's okay.

The reason why I suggest ForceASPI over the newer Adaptec download is that many people have mentioned now that the newer version has a number of problems. ForceASPI works well (even for WinXP).

I too suggest that you try VCDEasy for VCD creation over Nero if you are using it to create VCDs. VCDImager +/- GUI (e.g., VCDEasy) is one of the most flexible, powerful and comprehensive S/VCD authoring packages in existence.

Nero, however, is otherwise an excellent CD burning program. It's VCD authoring capabilities are a little bit primitive and limited though.

Also to clarify a few things on this thread, assuming that the original poster actually has a stand-alone VCD player (as opposed to a DVD player), CD-R should work fine. VCD players are based around a CD-ROM drive and shouldn't really have any problems with any CD-R media. However, being based on a CD-ROM drive, CD-RW will most probably NOT work.

Also, don't post links to warez/crackz sites!! I don't care how you justify to yourself.

    Regards.

  16. I don't see why advicing someone about free software is ilegal. It is ilegal if you get movies or software that you are supposed to pay for but if the software is free in the first place, that is a very different matter.

  17. Free software? Nero is not free software by any means, it's a regular commercial product for which you have to pay.

Of course there's no problem with someone pointing out the fact that there is a demo version of Nero available, but saying "Don't buy Nero, download the crack from xyz" at the same time is quite different.

  18. Get a copy of Nero off Ebay, I got mine with serial for $13. It's an OEM version tho, I am not sure if that is quite legal or not. Ask them to make sure it's retail before you buy.
