  1. I don't think the player is available yet. But on the features list, they have Windows Media Player as a feature or are they refering to WMA compatible?

Then I read on VCDhelp, some guy claiming he can play AVI files by changing the name to dat or mpg. He specificly mentions Spiderman.avi. I assume he's refering to divx format.

Am I misinterpreting this or is it another hoax?

Just read the manual for the 1600......Heres section about wma...it Bill Gates audio format.
    WHAT IS WMA?
WMA refers to a new format of music files available over the internet. Like music? Playback up to 22 hours of CD quality sound using Micosoft Windows Media Audio files burned onto a CD from your computer.

Other part: VCD's are just data in a specific format....Namely the main movie file is an MPG converted to a dat file that VCD players can read...
Now I spend 9 hours or more encoding each avi movie to mpg1 for use on a VCD... If I could just change the extension ...I would but it dont work like that....... Now I have had a few files that have an mpg extension that will play but info says it not an mpg...so I change ext to avi and it plays...and asf and it plays........truth is I dont know what these files are...
maybe doing something like that is just dumb luck....but it aint going to work all the time....
