  4. I have a Pioneer DV 440 and it has been great! I think the 444 is similar. I can play stuff on my player that none of my friends can. I don't know about that Sony model but I have noticed a lot of Sony's don't play CD-R's at all, but they will play CD-RW's just fine.

  5. I did have the Sony NS300, I thought it was crap, very fussy with CD-R, lots of trouble playing discs with even minor scratches. I now have the Pioneer DV444, it's a great player and plays every brand of disc I have tried in it.

  6. Well the pioneer can play MP3 and SVCD while in vcdhelp it says the Sony can't. Is that important to you?

    No idea of the price.

  7. I have a DVP-NS400D and I think its great...it can read CDR/RW and play SVCDs when you changed the headers. I looked at the 444 and the price was the main factor in going with the NS400. MP3 playback is something I know I wouldn't use.

  8. I have the 434 and it's better than my Sony 550s, it's not picky, will do 192 khz mp3, plays svcds on cdr or cdrw media handles dvd-r and dvd-rw with no problems, for 200 a better buy than the 600 I paid for my 550s.
