I posted yesterday about AVI - MPEG(VCD) audio sync issue . 60 People browsed and not one hint, clue, recommendation or even a "tell me what you are using for......".
Hey Sefy and Baldrick, you need to start a PARTICIPANT club....with Points for aid.
did I do a search first you ask ? Yes. There are 17 thousand items (exxagerate) on SYNC issues. I read a guide that showed how to rip the audio file using virtual dub. Of course the guide is for a VDUB release about 7 back. figured out how to do it, Fed both to TMPG and viola.still out of sync. Just nicer picture.
I find it amazing that I can RIP DVD's and convert to VCD's , Capture directly as a VCD, record movies, use ULEAD, NERO, WMM, Mixers, etc....
But no one has a simple process for
CAPTURE to AVI using ATI
COnvert to VCD (in Sync)
Burn
Should be (in my case ) ATI -> TMPG -> NERO
Can anyone suggest a process as easy that WORKS ?
Thanks .sorry for the long post

Yes, I have the same problem. I found that if you use VirtualDub to frameserve, the resultant MPEG will be substantially out of sync. However if you import the MPEG directly into TMPEGenc it should hold up in sync OK. So forget about VDub and use the latest version of TMPGenc exclusively. It even allows for multiple edits (for cutting out of commercials, etc.)

Thank you ! I was using TMPG exclusively though but NOT the latest release. I just downloaded and tried yesterday...Only trouble is the video I am using is not clear enough to 100% check sun(its a graduation, people not close) ...Thanks again.

You obviously only paid for the Bronze service. You need the Silver or Gold service to get immediate attention. -
THATS GOOD !! Sort of like the Platinum EZ VCD Creator...LOL

Well, I found Platinum EZ VCD Creator to be crap. So, yeah! 8)

I Apologise for not being around lately, i'm packing up for my vacation soon, so I didn't have much time, as on top of that i've been working some extra time.
I do not know exactly on how to help you on your issue, as I don't really do many AVI to MPG conversions, but I have found that splitting the Audio from the AVI/DivX file into a seperate WAV file, and then encoding using the DivX as Video and WAV as Audio sources usually fixes the sync problems.Email me for faster replies!

Arcorob,
Use the tmpgen plus lastest version. I hope you donīt need extra tools.
I follow this process:
1. I have the avi movi
2. I use the tmpgenc (donīt worry about quality of the audio, this thing you can fix later; first learn to walk, then learn to run)
3. Use the wizard (is secure and easy)
4. be patience
the only way to learn is trying and trying and trying......and reading and asking.

Well, I have a different problem. Finally I am able to get the ADS Instant DVD to capture in 704*480 5MBps CBR 224kbps 16 bit 48kHz stereo without dropping frames and without the right shift in the picture I was getting. HOWEVER...taking this file and converting it to VCD (for a friend whose DVD player will only work with standard VCDs) or SVCD is proving to be a real pain. I'd like to cut the video (94 min.) into 2 pieces, one from 0 - 60 min and the other from 60 min - 94 min marks. You'd think I was pulling teeth! First attempt with Video Studio 5 resulted in both pieces being out of sync (the first piece took 5 hours to convert...what a waste of time that was). I've also heard that TMpgenc will unsync the audio and video as well but I'll try it anyway to convert the entire file into VCD Mpeg-1 2 pass VBR and see what happens. On my 1 GHz PIII, the time shows as almost 7 hours to convert! That's a bit down from the 14 hours to convert a single hour of DV-AVI though. I should also then be able to cut the Mpeg-1 into 2 pieces with in sync sound and video (I hope at least). And then burn to disc. I'm still looking for a simple editing solution but Mpeg-2 is a bitch to work with it seems as it's supposed to be a finished format (do your editing in AVI or Mpeg-1 and then convert the finished product to Mpeg-2). Capping in Mpeg-2 is relatively new it seems...
Any pointers, TIA... -
I am not sure but Video Studio 6 may work a bit better.
I hate to add but a faster processor would give you less processing heartache - I know going from a P3-733 to a P4-2000 recently.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
Hey Oldfart,
I assume you were making an SVCD or DVD to start with. If this is good quality, just re-capture the thing with the ADS unit in VCD format. Saves all that encoding time!
I make DVDs from DV source. To create general copies for the rest of the family, I just recapture with ULEAD VideoStudio6 using a live conversion to VCD. The quality is not fantastic, but it is very watchable. -
Well, ADS gave me the new version of VS6 on their updated software version. I might as well try it since VS5 doesn't edit right. I'm glad this forum is here as the ADS one blows. Not enough people using various sources, so there is little in the way of useful knowledge.
I tried using Tmpgenc to cut an old movie I capped in SVCD format but the cut files are actually some Megabytes smaller than the whole capture. Odd that Tmpgenc also reported the cut sequences to be the same size in seconds but then screwed up the audio/video sync when it remuxed them. Definitely NOT the program to cut Mpeg-2's with!
Any pointers you have regarding cutting Mpeg-2's would be greatly appreciated. It's the last step I need to do having figured out what was wrong with my caps in the first place (get a newer really fast hard drive like the Maxtor UDA 133 7200 rpm line and use it for capturing only).
TIA -
Oldfart,
I have also had problems with sync after using TMPGenc Mpeg Tools. Some people seem to have good luck with it, I am using an older version (12f) just because everything else seems to work very well.
Under the How To section, look up Edit and SVCD. The bbMPEG is freeware and supposedly works properly with cutting. Check the tutorial because the interface is a little strange.
