  1. I recently purchased an Daewoo 8000F DVD-Player. The PAL-SVCD sample from http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcd.htm does work.
However, I am not able to create valid SVCDs with Nero 5.5.8.2 or InstantVideo 6.4
The player does not show the menu. Instead he shows the file-system of the disc. I can browse through it and launch the mpg-file. But the picture flickers all the time, big blocks destroy the picture and sometime it hangs completely.
With which software was the SVCD-sample created?
    Can Nero create valid SVCDs?

    Thank you for your help,

  2. Nero only setup the structure for the SVCD, and add the mpg2 file.
Most folks typically use TMPenc to created the SVCD compliant mpg2 file.

  3. Of course I created the mpg-file using TMPeg.
But Nero does not copy 1:1
The file size of my original mpg is 254.984.632 bytes
Nero modifys the file to 224.825.344
So Nero definitely does not just create the structure and copy the compliant mpg2 file.

    Any ideas?

  4. BTW:
Using the same TMPEG encoded mpeg, converting it to *.mps using mpgXmps 0.131, authoring it with I-Author 1.0 and burning it with EasyCD-Creator 4.05 creates a valid SVCD.
But I want to use Nero. Can it do the job?

if you have an mpeg2 file, all you need to do in Nero is go file-->new-->SVCD, and add your mpeg file. it will make a compliant SVCD no problems.

  6. That is exactly what I did (see first posting).
Actually the Daewoo player does not like this Nero-SVCD whereas he accepts the SVCD-sample from VCDHelp.
Maybe there are many DVD-players out there capable of dealing with Nero-SVCDs but there is obviously a difference between Nero-mastered SVCDs and the SVCD-sample from VCDHelp.

  7. Download Ulead's DVD Movie Factory Trial from www.ulead.com.

Try putting your SVCD compliant video in there (maybe author some menus and such) and then burn with it. If it still doesn't work, then maybe something is wrong with your video conversion? At the very least, using this app will help narrow down where the problem lies.

By the way, I would still use TMPGenc to create the MPEGs. It produces better quality video than Ulead does, but I actually like the authoring possibilities of the Movie Factory, better.

And, finally, I saw this app for only $29 at a CompUSA in Houston, Texas. So, if it does work, it won't break your bank to buy it.

    Good luck.

  9. I just downloaded Ulead Movie Factory Trial.
    It succeeds where Nero fails:
SVCDS created with this software are fully functional - great!
    I'll buy the software.
    Thank you for your help.

  10. VERY glad I could be of help. It's not the most robust tool on the market, but it does a very good job. Also, the new price can't be beat!

Search the forums for "Ulead DVD Movie Factory" and you'll find some instructions on how to modify the templates that come with the product.

    Good luck!

I'll take exception to that. Hint.

  13. Hmmm. I've read reports that Imesh has Spyware and that it is highly vulnerable to virus attacks. What is in it that makes it better than LimeWire or BearShare (I'm not a fan of BS, by the way)?

  14. In Nero 5.5.8.2 under the Misc Tab uncheck the Cache Files from Disk & Network box - it trashes the disc.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

Well use whatever peer-2-peer you want. I use edonkey, Imesh & Kazza. Imesh was the only one i found Movie Factory. Moral of the story, don't just look in one spot. Use a few sources.

Spyware: use Ad-aware (SpyWare removal): http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
