avi to mpeg1

hi i did a dvd rip using easydvx, the quality on the computer is brill, but can i convert that avi to mpeg1 so it will play on my stand alone dvd player?
i have used smart ripper and dvdtoavi, then tmpge to make vcds before but it was a bit long winded and hardley worth the time.

shortly what i do...
1) i use virtual dub to extract the audio channel and save it as a .wav
2) open TMPGEnc and give it the sources: your avi for video channel and the wav for audio - then run it ( settings to vcd oder svcd )

3) burn with nero as vcd or svcd

thats it.
