  1. Every time I try to convert a divx movie to mpeg for vcd audio goes out of sync with the video. I tried several options & tools:

    - TMegEnc (latest version and older ones)
    - Virtual Dub
    - Medion Movie Director
    - Nero 5578

    - Adding silence to audio file trying to sync it again
    - Extracting audio as Wav and using as audio source in Tmpeg Enc.

    NOTHING WORKED !!!!!!

Everytime the same effect: audio and video out of sync

    PLEASE HELP

  2. First a question, in what way is the audio out of sync, is it gradual loss of sync, a fixed amount out of sync all the way through the video or what, please describe.

Secondly a suggestion, gradual loss of sync is often caused by incorrect frame rates between source and destination. Open the avi file in virtualdub and look at file properties from the file menu, this will tell you the fps of the source video. Next, encode in TmpGenc using the VCD template that uses tha same framerate as your source, these are NTSC 29.97fps, PAL 25fps and NTSC film 23.97fps. Check the encoded mpeg for sync problems. If sync probs are fixed but you cant play the resulting VCD on your DVD player/TV coz of format incompatibility (i.e you created a NTSC VCD but can only playback PAL or vice versa) then you may have to investigate format conversion, for which there is a guide on this site. Before doing this tho be 100% certain you cannot handle the format because, certainly in Europe, nearly all TV's and DVD players sold in the last few years are multi standard and format conversion can be a pain in the a** and is to be avaided if at all possible.

  3. 1: The out of sync starts right at the beginning and goes on through the whole movie. Sound is always a second earlier, so I added a second of silence at the wav beginning.....converted again. Same problem.

2: I'll try that. My standalone dvd can play both PAL and NTSC. I always converted it to PAL, so maybe i should try NTSC....

If the avi is OK, nearly every instance of sync problems is because the step to extract the audio as an uncompressed wav has been omitted. As to templates, it is a bad idea not to use the correct template to correspond to the source. PAL for 25fps, NTSC for 29.97fps and NTSC film for 23.97fps. Choosing the incorrect template introduces a slight jerkiness. Some don't seem to notice - I do. 8)

  5. If your A/V Sync error is fixed all the way through and you are using TMPG there is an easy way to fix the problem.

Using "Source Range" under the advanced menu tab - adjust Audio time offset. It is that simple.
