  1. Hi, I have a question about putting an entire movie on one VCD. The .avi file size is 701,834KB. I am converting this file to .mpeg so that I can make it a VCD. I read something about large .avi files not fitting on one CD, however sometimes that same file in VCD format will fit on one CD. By "VCD format" does this simply mean that you need to convert it to .mpeg, or is there another format that I need to convert to to make this file fit on one VCD? Any help is appreciated, as I am new to this stuff today. Thanks!

The avi size dont matter as thats not the finished size...VCD must be in MPEG format....So you will need to convert or (encode as we say) to mpg.

As far as will it fit on one CD...that depends on finished mpg file size...
Less than 750mb and it will fit on most 80min CDR.

    How long is the movie??

Its right at the end of the limit for one disk and still be watchable....but you definatly need to get a unlocked template from the tools section (everyones going on about Kwang's)....
But that will make a none standard VCD , so turn of standard compliancy if you use Nero, and hope that the DVD player you have will support nonstandard VCD's.
Max video bitrate will probly need to be around 850to900 and drop the audio to 96 .... It'll fit....

  5. by dropping the video and audio as you suggested, will that substantially affect the quality of the finished product?

    Some times no...but usally yes....
Look at Kwang template..Almost all the way at bottom of tool page..( I just did, though I have not used it yet) He is using high bitrates and frame sizes for a VCD...but if it work quality should be great...No loss for what you have

  7. Thanks for the help. I found Kwag's templates, and yes, I am using Nero. I am converting my file to mpeg right now, so I will prob try using the template and burning the VCD tomorrow. It doesn't appear to be to difficult to use the template, but if I get stuck I might be back tomorrow. Thanks again.
