Please can you share your experiences in converting NTSC 30ftp to PAL 25fps.

I've read some of the VCDHELP guides and have tried using TMPGEnc, but the results are always a more choppy frame rate than the original.

Since the conversion goes from 30 to 25fps, (and it is possible to have a smooth frame rate at 25) I can only assume that the software is not as good as it could be, or (more likely) I'm doing something wrong.

If I was converting from 25 to 30fps I could understand the choppy result.

Please can someone advise on how I can get better results, I don't mind purchasing software if that's the answer...

As far as I know, you'll always get jerkiness when you convert NTSC to PAL, as you're dropping frames from the orginal. all 30fps are usually needed to make a smooth picture, (unless you're doing it from an NTSC source that was orginally from film at 23.97fps, which is interlaced).

if you do it from PAL to NTSC though, it's possible to have a completely smooth picture, as the same interlacing technique applies... showing 2 pictures in sucession would make it look a little choppy, so instead of showing it as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7... etc, it would show as 1,2,3,2,3,4,5,6,7,6,7.. etc, to make it smooth again. (don't ask me how it works, it just does)

of course, in flask, at least, i find when dealing with interlaced movies, the best settings are to deinterlace the film at a threshold of one... which doesn't really helkp you if it's not interlaced at all....

Well... using an AVIsynth script and the IVTC filter you can get a pretty good result (from 29,97 files that is...)

    The framerate will be 23,97

After that you just speed up the F-rate to 25 and use besweet to fix the audio... Simple as that... (If you have an Avi that is...)

    Some help perhaps...
