  1. I will take any tips on what cd writer to buy or steer clear of. My
2/2/24 Hp burner just packed it in. It seems that the market for burners is driven by the quest for speed. Cd's I burned at 1x work in the older player in my truck okay. I briefly had a LG 12/8/32 but sold it after a couple weeks of use. It could only slow down to 4x on cdr's. I tried the same media for a disk for the truck and it sounded worse than the worst cassette you could imagine. So far, the only drive I've seen with a write speed of 1x is the Plextor burners.

  2. As far as I know as of right now, the 2 top burners are Plextor and LiteOn. There's nothing you can say about Plextor, but if cash is a problem, go for LiteOn. They both rocks! I recently bought a LiteOn 40x12x48 for $86 +free s/h from Dell. Now the offers is over, but look around. Hope this help.

  3. I read about the Lite On and it seems to get impressive reviews. It would appear to be a great buy when the price vs performance is compared. The only problem I have with this drive is that along with most drives, it can't burn at slowers speeds. This is something I want as I have always thought that a better burn can be achieved when you don't rush it. It may be the difference between success or failure when trying to playback in players (DVD, car Cd deck) that have marginal read perfomance.

  4. 4x is the slowest you can burn on todays high speed drives.Look into
a Legend,Lite-on or Cyberdrive they will give you the most bang for the buck.

  5. Like I said above. The Plextor drives still can burn at 1x.

  7. I got a Lite-on 32123S (32x 12x 40x) on a warranty exchange for a 24x 10x 40x yesterday & it included Nero which I then upgraded to 5.5.8.2

TSCV (actually) cdrdao does not recognize it (it isn't in the latest driver tables)

Nero VCD template, trying to burn at 8x on 8x media, single VCD MPG that has worked on other machines, gives no error & burns the MPG but the VCD is not recognized in a PC (even in explorer & WinDVD) and not in a Philips 911 or APEX 1500 - basically a coaster. Happened twice.

    Any help appreciated. Da Kitty

  8. I got the TDK VeloCD 32*10*40. I love this baby! It burns top speed, over 50 discs, not one problem. The software it comes with( Nero 5.5 InCD) they are great as well. It is a breeze to install. They now have a 40X version but the 32X comes with a 50 dollar rebate offer. With a price of 150 minus its rebate you get a high performance burner for 100 dollars!

  9. If you go to Staples right now, you can get a Cendyne (which is a rebadged Liteon) 32X recorder for $99.00 minus a $50 rebate that you have to mail in. So, for around $50 bucks- you can't go wrong. It also comes w/ Nero. I bought two just for the heck of it, and it shows up as a liteon on my computer.

p.s. look for a 12 digit serial number (no letters) to gurantee your getting the liteon version. There are Mitsumi and other ones floating around as well. Drive model # is LTR32123S
