  1. I've played with the demo of DVD Workshop and maybe its me, but I don't think its that intuitive. I want something that will allow me to make simple menus and burn a DVD-R image correctly if I give it a valid MPEG2 file.

    What fits this?

  2. popular and simple to use is MyDVD or DVDit from Sonic. Limited capabilities and only support PCM sound unless you get DVDit PE which is expensive. Try one of them, may be what you want but many people find them limiting.

  4. Even has compliant software so it can run just as well in windows 98 to get around the 4 gig data handling snag..................

  5. DVD Movie Factory and DVD Workshop do not convert the mpeg2 file, I thought DVD Workshop did at first, until I start disc image creation, set to 8000 kbs and let her fly, my mpeg was merely muxed into a vob file in about 10 mins, no way in hell it renders 4.2 gb mpeg2 files that fast , ready to burn .

  6. dvd workshop works great (motion menues, exact! chapter selection possible, complicated menustructure possible, easy to use)!
what it lacks: dolby digital support, subtitle support.

    "reencoding problem":

Here is the rule which DVDWS uses to decide if an MPEG-2 file needs to be converted or not:
    1. If the mpeg2 file is not in a DVD compliant range, it will convert.
    2. If the bit rate of the original mpeg2 is higher than project setting, it will
    convert it.
    3. If the video dimension of the original mpeg2 is different from the
project setting, it will convert it.
    4. If the audiosettings is different from the project setting, it will convert.
    5. If a mpeg2 file is ok for above cases, but it is trimmed, the program
will do DTR. This means it will render only changes made to create the
    shortened clip

If none of those cases exist, then DVDWS will not re-encode MPEG files before burning.

    hope this helps

  7. AAAARGHHHH!

I am using a source mpeg2 (SVCD) file in UDWS that I KNOW will fit on an 80 min CDR, specifying a bitrate in "Make Disc" I KNOW is above the file's bitrate.... yet UDWS **STILL** insists on RE-encoding the file - to a LARGER size, which it predicts will NOT fit on the disc!!!!

Is there ANY WAY of SHUTTING THIS RE-ENCODE OPTION OFF????

If there is not, I want a refund. I hate spending hours making chapters, images, menus, then finding out I can't burn the SVCD????? This is p*ssing me off!! Ulead DVD Movie Factory was fine! With this new software built using the same authoring engine with so much more configuration options, you'd think they'd have an option whether you WANTED your source file re-encoded or not? WTF??????? I sure as hell hope Ulead adds this option in v1.1, if a patch is ever made!

  8. Hi Guys

I too am having similar problems to those mentioned previously.

I burned my mpeg2 file in CCE2.5 (much quicker than other programs). The resulting files plays really well on the pc , and each half of the movie wil fit on to 1 cd each.

I have since tried to tinker , and create menus and chapters , so I started to use Ulead DVD workshop. After a bit of trial and error I have a motion clip start , then selection menu , and chapters , brilliant! Then went to finish the project and burn , and Workshop insisted on reconverting. I certainly do not want to have two conversion processes (CCE earlier just to get the damn thing compliant in the 1st place)

I note the comments re video size having to be the same as the project , audio , and bitrate higher than the project value.

Is there anyway to quickly find out these settings ? I seem to only be able to adjust the average bitrate in workshop , how would I find out the average rate of my existing stream?
Its a shame cos this program works really well , but this final stage really does suck . It even tried to rencode a Vcd stream when I tested it (and that was an original so definitely compliant stream)

Does anyone else know a similar program which will do the menus and chapters ,( easy like Workshop) , and has the option not to reconvert the stream to settings its thinks is compliant?

    Cheers

    Scouse
