I used this option to capture TV program instead of Digital VCR. Surpringly, it is able to capture very high quality high resolution MPEG video without any frame drop. (PC P3,733mhz,256M-RAM). When I used Digital VCR, frame drop ~20% for MPEG2 .
With this TV on-demand option, the capture resolution is 480x480. The file size is way less comparing to AVI (1/4 to be exact). However, the format is strange. The file was saved with extension MP2, but I can not use the TMPGEnc tool to cut. The file can not be played either on DVD which plays MPEG file. I can play it on PC with WIndow Media player though. Any hint what kind of format is it ?? Is it possible to adjust the format under this TV on-demand option ??

These are .VCR files - did you try exporting part of the VCR file to MPEG2 with the Media Library ?
If you want to make a preset similar to TV-on-demand, you can try MPEG2 480x480 I-frame only at 6Mbps.
You shouldn't drop frames with that on a P3-700, and the quality should be pretty good.
