1) What are you converting from?
2) What are you converting to?
3) How is the quality of the original?
4) Are you playing the original on a different machine (i.e. VCR) then the converted item (i.e. computer)?
5) What programs are you using to convert?

but what about the
WHO- as in- Who is going to post next? BRONZE?
WHEN- as in -WHEN will he check his post?
WHERE- as in -WHERE will we be when he comes back?

ok sorry, im converting from a divx 23.976 to mpeg using audiodub and tmpeg, i get a lot pf puple type effects, and the sound some times just stops mid file watching on pc or dvd player converting to vcdntsc film

You've probably tried this already but i'll ask anyway ...
Have you changed the Evironment settings in TMPG?
1. When u open TMPG close the wizard and click option
2. Click Environmental Setting
3. click VFAPI plug-in
4. Right CLICK on Direct Show File Reader
4A. select higher priority
It fixed my purple screens

p.s. some say get rid of that AngelPotion Codec as well
