Hello there. I'm negotiating with a seller, but he told me that the tapes are not going in, big problem? It has HDMI output, would it be a good idea to buy it and try to fix it? Would it be good to convert tapes through the HDMI output?

I wouldn't touch it even for free. Repairing the VHS section can be rather expensive and the DVD section isn't worth much.
You can ask the seller how much does it cost to repair it by a professional and then decide if it is worth buying.
