can anyone really tell the difference between Normal and High Quality (or even Normal/LQ/Motion Search Estimate/etc)? i'm not sure i really have the eye to tell. or at least the videos i have tested were not real good for testing.
i'm not completely impatient, but i'm encoding two of the four guys' routines from Kings of Comedy into a CBR XSVCD @ around 1740kbs (352x480) and it's supposedly going to take 44 hours on my feeble P2-333 @ High Quality...

I can see a difference, but I do a lot of animation and scences with dark/black backgrounds.

there is definately a differance in the picture quality between High & Normal just encode the first 30 seconds on each setting and see for yourself. You should try encoding something with a lot of quick movement (action) to be really able to tell ! Can u really be arsed 2 wait 44 hours on h.Q. especially when that feeble processor is working (Burning-Out Really Fast) why not invest in a new processor ? If I had to wait and damage my chip 4 that long i would give up ! But then theres always Flask !!!???
