I'd like to know if there exists any freeware that can help me capture my PC monitor display without any capture card.

?????
There is plenty of screen capture software available, just go to any shareware site and search. One of the best/most popular is Snag-it. Not freeware but shareware. -
There's also a program built into Windows that allows screen capture (I'm serious). Just hit the Print Screen button, then open Paintbrush and do Ctrl-V to paste. It will capture what ever is on the screen at the moment you clicked on the Print Screen button, although it will not usually do movies.

Windows screen capture using print screen does not work with any program that uses direct draw (part of directx) to output to the screen (most video players) and as you said will only capture stills. Usefull for screen shots in guides tho!

Like bugster just posted, if you are looking to just capture a shot of your computer screen, the Windows capture works best. If you are looking to capture video that is paused or playing on-screen, then you need to get a program that supports Active-X captures.
But, you can also go the way of capturing through Virtual-Dub, if it's a file type that the program supports (I think just avi and mpg, but could be more). Just open the movie in Virtual Dub, scan to the frame you want to capture, Print Screen, open Paintbrush and paste, then clip away the stuff you don't want (which is the only actual difficult part of this all).My shameless plug - XavierEnterprises.net -
Go to www.howiesfunfare.com. This is a small and functional quick screen capture program that's FREE. Works on WinXp as well. Enjoy.

Just checked out the link and it seems to be dead. Go here instead :
Go to CNET downloads (download.com) then SEARCH for Quick Screen Capture 1.0. Enjoy.
