Can you just download a movie off the internet and watch it?

I was wondering if you can dowload a movie off the internet and watch it on your computer?
Also what do you need to dowload it and watch it?

You'll need download software. There are IRCs, P2Ps, and Gnutella GUIs. Look around here for topics pertaining to these. This area is really preference. Beware of spyware when you download. i use eDonkey2000. It's a mix of IRC and P2P, has OK speed, and is really reliable. With DSL, I just downloaded Spiderman in about 15 hours SVCD format. To view it, you can use Windows media player. Some formats require codecs or other viewers.

1) any website that offers illegal copies of movies will be shut down before you even knew it existed

2) windows media player is just a tool to play (decode) the media files w/ the codecs it has...all you need to do is install the right codecs and you're good to go w/ mplayer
