Do you need a DVDRom to play VCDs or can you play them on a regular CDRom? I can not seem to get them working on my laptop

I know it sound stupid but hey I am trying to figure this out.

  2. No you do NOT need a DVD-Rom drive to play VCDs...that is one of the wonderful things about them...and further more you don't need a very impressive laptop to play them...I used to run them on my P166 laptop. What are you using to play them on your laptop (what software have you tried) give us the steps you are taking to play the VCD and I'll tell you what you need to try....also include your laptop specs...

    Macros746,

1 - Your laptop may simply not recognize your media. If you're using CDR, try CDRW or vice versa. (The problem on my Thinkpad....)

2 - If you're not using software like ION or something similar (which can autostart a VCD) try opening up the *.dat in the MPEG directory with Windows Media Player. I've setup Media Player to be associated with .DAT files. Now I just have to double click on the .dat file and bingo.
    Have a good one,
