Hello, I'm looking for free software to upload digital video from my Sony HD player to my computer via fiirewire (HP ENVY Desktop - TE01-1150xt CTO) I have Windows 10. Could update to Windows 11 if necessary. I already have software for editing, just need software for uploading. The formats are DVCam and MiniDV.
    Any suggestions?

Uploading from where? External storage? You don't need software to upload, Just transfer the files to your computer using windows file explorer.

Sony HD player what does it look like?
Can you show us a photo of all the connectors that it has?
Also what connectivity options does it have like Bluetoth for example.
If it has a USB connector (USB mini or USB micro) then just connect it to you PC. Windows 10 should be OK no need to upgrade to Windows 11

Use Sclive or WinDV for DV and DVCAM and HDVSplit for HDV, You would need a firewire (iLink) cable and firewire port on your computer.

    Subtitles:

Sorry for the confusion. I inadvertently deleted the word "Firewire" connection when I edited to make it more clear. I already have firewire!

dellsam34, I downloaded WinDV, Thank you for the suggestion. However, when I hit "capture" the program crashes. Any suggestions on how to correct this would be greatly appreciated.

Re-read dellsam34's advice again. It's one program for DV and a different one for DVCAM. Neither will work for the wrong source.

@RMHVideo, "MiniDV" can be Standard Definition DV, eg 720x576 or High Definition DV, which is 1440x1080. As commented above, each requires different software to capture it using Firewire.

What is the model number of your "Sony HD Player"? Then we can specifically advise what program to use.

FWIW, I have found WinDV to be unreliable these days with Win 10 and 11. For standard DV, I recommend Scenalyzer. I have posted guides for both (and HDVSplit) on my website.

    Alwyn,

    Thank you.

It's a Sony Digital HD Videocassette Recorder. HVR-M15E. The original footage was captured on Sony HDV cameras. 1440 X 1080

Oh boy, I have one. You need to read the manual several times, It's not easy to setup from DV to HDV and vise versa, You have to follow the instructions carefully and must connect the analog out to a monitor to access the menu.
