Hi all,
I'm wondering if anybody can help me out. I have few .vob -files and few XSVCD (DVD Resolution) clips but I have not been able to convert them to SVCD compliant mpeg2 stream (480x480/576x480).
I have tried different softwares (such as TMPGEnc, Videopack 5 and CCE 2.5) but every time I get the same result. It produces very bad quality with horizontal lines in the picture especially with scenes including a lot of movement. Picture itself is very sharp but it doesn't tolerate movement at all. I try to encode with Constant Bitrate 2520kbps and this cannot be the reason why I'm getting such a bad result.
Should I use frameserving or do I have some settings wrong (should I use Interlace instead of Non-interlaced or something like that)? And I would appreciate very much if someone can tell me where I can find instructions for VOB to SVCD conversion.
Thanks in advance!

to convert vobs or xsvcd to vcd or svcd
www.vcdhelp.com/mpeg2tovcd.htm
read the dvd ripping guides for more ways how to convert vob to mpeg
and the lines are probably interlace and it will look perfect on your tv and play the interlaced video with powerdvd or windvd on your computer and it will look kinda okey but better on your tv. -
Thanks Baldrick, but there's still something I want to know.
I did a little test and encoded the same clip with an interlaced option ON and the result was much better -> no horizontal lines anymore.
What I'm missing is that why I should use frameserving from DVD2AVI software and not encode it directly with TMPGEnc? I did that test just by bringing the VOB file as a input and setting the output file as a SVCD NTSC. What benefits there are when using frameserving?
And second question about interlacing: I have never used Interlace option before and I'm wondering when I should use interlace option and when not?
DVD -> SVCD NTSC?
DVD -> SVCD PAL?
DVD -> VCD NTSC?
DVD -> VCD PAL?
DivX (PAL / NTSC) -> SVCD NTSC?
DivX (PAL / NTSC) -> SVCD PAL?
DivX (PAL / NTSC) -> VCD NTSC?
DivX (PAL / NTSC) -> VCD PAL?
Or is there any rule on that? Thanks again ... =)
