  1. I'm very new to this VCD thing, so I'm just learning and so far I made one VCD sucessfully, but I have a problem with the one I'm working on now. It is a MPEG file and when I put it into my Toast program, it says it is a bad format and I need to encode it. I'm wondering what do I have to encode this file to and with what program. If someone could please help get in the right direction it would really help. I have tried VCDGear and I converted it many times and nothing helped.

    Thanks a lot,
    Garett

  2. The vcd mpeg specifications are 352x240/288, 25/29.97fps MPEG1 and 224kbit/s MPEG1-Layer2 audio.
If it's a ripped file from another vcd multiplexing by TMPGEnc may help but when your mpeg has a different framerate, audio, or resolution; (and you want to burn it as an standard vcd) it should be reencoded by an encoder like Panasonic, TMPGEnc, LSX by loading the correct profile and not the built-in authoring program's mpeg encoder!
I have no knowledge of mac programs you can use for this.
VCDGear does not reencode your file, it can convert dat<>mpeg and when the direction is set to mpg>mpg and the fix option is enabled, it makes sure that your output MPEG file won't have any broken(missing) blocks.

  3. Thanks for the help. I see what the problem is and I also looked for a Mac program, but could not find anything, hopefully they will come out with one soon to solve this problem. Thanks again, I understand a little more now.

    Peace,

If the file is not in toast format, why not use Quicktime Pro to re-encode it into Toast ready format? Anything Quicktime can read can be exported as Toast ready Video-CD.

  5. I'm trying the same thing and having the same problem. When I try to encode with Quicktime, it's giving me an error saying there is some track problem or something. I'll post back with the real error message. I've tried Quick Edit Pro but that I don'tt hink is working. The disc I made plays in my DVD player but there is no pic or sound. Any ideas what to do?

Whenever I've encountered an mpeg 1 that Toast refuses to accept . I bundle the mpeg 1 into a bin using GNU VCDToolsX and then I burn it with Toast as a VCD Bin file. it works for me and plays on my stand alone DVD player.
