  1. I recently purchased the Pioneer DVR-104, which supposedly supports 2x burning. Although i haven't had any problems with any of the discs i have burned, i have yet to actually be able to burn at 2x. Nero doesn't give 2x as an option. VOB Instant CD+DVD lets me select 2x, and even says "27 minutes remaining" when the burning starts... but it still takes close to an hour. I've used Maxell and Memorex media, as well as the media from CD-Recordable.com (which others have apparently used for 2x burning). Any suggestions?

Hey, NERO gives me the option and even when I burn CD-RECORDABLE generics at 2X. You have to "click" on the 1X and pull it down to 2X. 1X is the default in NERO. Try that.

  3. When i click the 1x to pull it down, there are no other options. The pull-down menu only shows 1x. And i'm using the newest version of Nero.

One comment: The NERO v 5580 had a problem with the install. You had to COMPLETELY uninstall the PREVIOUS version, then do a complete reinstall. Otherwise, "strange" things would happen (happened to me). If you DIDN'T go this route, I would suggest giving it a try.

Also, make sure that your media is VER 2.0 or higher. Any less than that, and your DVR-104 will AUTOMATICALLY default to 1X (which is as fast as that media can go). As a test, bite the bullet and buy a VER 2.0 disk at your local comp store, and see if this will give you the 2X option (use NERO).

The Pioneer DOES burn at 2X. Last night, I burned 4.3GB to DVD. I set a minute timer for 30 minutes, walked away, and when the timer went off, the disk was done.
