I have been "trying" to convert a wedding video to a format that will play from a USB stick on a projector. Originally I converted the original VHS to DVD (Vob/Ifo/Bup) files a good few years ago. So now I have used MakeMKV to convert it into an MKV file, however there is no Audio and the projector displays "No audio - wrong format"

From the instruction book the unit claims to be able to playback Video : 3GP/AVI/FLV/MP4/VOB/TS/M2TS/DAT/MKV Audio : MP3/APE/AAC/FLAC/OGG/WAV/WMA/MIDI/DTS/M4A

I have tried using DVDfab to convert the MKV keeping the video format as original but changing the Audio format to MP3 and that hasnt worked. Im assuming its not as straightforward as that, and the formats arent compatible with each other...

so, over to you expert chaps where have I gone wrong, Is there a program that can sort this in one step, do I need to separate the audio to convert it, then re-attach it etc etc ?

I realise the original VOB/TS format should play but im looking to make one single more compact file.

What format is the audio in your converted file?
Use mediainfo to see the details

Can use something like AVIdemux to copy the video and convert the audio to aac

  3. No AC3 support? AC3 is the most common audio format on DVD. You may have to convert to AAC.

  4. Use clever Ffmpeg-GUI.
Load your mkv, click main, click convert audio, click continue, select aac as codec, leave all other settings as they are, click convert.
If done, click multiplex, deselect the old ac3 or mp2 audiostream, click multiplex.
    All done.
