Sony Dru500a not recognizing many blank or retail dvds...

Guys,

I have a strange problem. My Dru500a doesn't seem to recognize it's own sony dvd+rw media that came inside the box, nor many orther dvd+rw, including Maxel. DVDinfo can not read any disc, accept a batch of dvd-rs, which is weird. I can't even watch any of my store bought copys, not that I have tons to try.

I had tried the latest firmware 2.0g, and even went back to 1.0f without luck. I did purchase extended warranty, which I'm thankful now. Does anyone have any other suggestions before I return the burner...

Try to uninstall it in system & restart you computer. Sony support has free online chat room support, I tried them once, 2 minute wait, fast & fun.
