Almost all Sony DVD players can read VCD's or even XVCD's up to 2500kbit/sec. but usually only CDRW's. I have a NS325 and no problems with VCD's either. And I even found one CDR brand that works also. Its VIVASTAR 700MB. They work with no problem. All other CDR's I ve tried didn't work at all. According to the compatibility list, your player should read VCD's like all other Sony players. So just give it another try, but start out with a standard VCD before you try some XVCD. If it just won't work, then there might be something wrong with your player.

My DAV-S500 has played almost everything I'v put into it. The only thing that I've found that it won't play are MP3's. And the type of media I use doesn't seem to matter at all. I haven't tried any DVD-R or DVD-RW's yet, but I've read that they won't work.
