So I want to record part of a livestream later today. There's a band live on dice.fm I want to see. I have a ticket, but I want to watch it again later on.
Windows 10 Pro. I tried both Streamlabs OBS and Camtasia.. video fine, audio sound like it's in a tunnel.
Any ideas on what to try to get audio good?
Specs:
i7 6700k, 32GB memory, m.2 970 Pro, RTX 2080 Super, so my system specs are more than powerful enough to handle the work.

This won't help you with today's event, but having just recorded a livestream a few days ago, I used my Hauppauge PVR2 1512 to record the HDMI out of my laptop, through a splitter. Worked perfectly for both the video and audio.
As for recording from Camtasia, how are you recording the audio? You most definitely want to record without going through a speaker and then to a microphone. If your computer's sound card has a "What You Hear" option in the mixer, that's what you want to use. -

Problem solved. Sound card on motherboard doesn't show up in Windows if I don't have anything connected to it. I do not own a set of speakers, however I found a small stereo cable.. audio card out to audio card in. It records fine, however while the stream is live I will not be able to hear it. I have to wait until after and watch my capture.
I wonder if there is a way to make windows output to two sets.. my headphone and my "speaker" (the cord I hooked up). I'll look into that. -
Here's how I got it to all work for anyone wondering..
I want to hear a livestream through my headset, but recording sounded like it was in a tunnel.
Attach stereo cable to motherboard onboard audio out to audio in.
Go to Windows 10 Control panel and click Sound.
In there I selected "Speakers Realtek High Definition Audio" as my default playback device.
Under the Recording tab find "Stereo Mix" and set it as default device. Double click to open settings and go to Listen tab and check the box Listen to this device and playback through my headset.
Then back at your recording software select the speakers as your recording device.Last edited by yuppicide0138; 18th Dec 2020 at 13:19.

The sound system in Windows has never been logical. Sorry to hear that it is still weird in Windows 10. Glad you got it working.
