Some containers allow mixed resolutions. Transport Streams are especially well handled because some satellite broadcasts run ads at different resolutions than the shows. You can also pub mixed resolutions in MP4 and MKV but players often don't handle it properly. Here's an example:

What jagabo said is for computer/player viewing but for authoring to bd/dvd you can't unless you patch the headers and trick the authoring program.

Yes, it will only be used by computer software players, MKV seems to be the more convenient. I'll read what''s about the link from jagabo.

Is it good to make a fully black frame that fits the 16-9 source width and the 4-3 height (when 2 vdeos inserted, only corners are black) ?!
One video source must be set on top or cropped in the center, to not display identical "center" video part !

Not sur to understand, you mean 4-3/16-9 (not 6-9 !?).

I made an typing error in the title, cause my keyboard is bad, title was 16/9 + 4/3... a wide 16-9 video with a heigh 4-3 video, together, black bars don't take full W/H lenghth, but only appear in the four corners of the video.

The two videos are the same, but one has more width (cropped up & down), the other has more height (cropped on right & left). Two versions of the same source at different A/Ratio, i want to display the maximum by combinig the two (but not the center, it'd make collision).

I just realised it is not posible, should have look at it before, the picture is zoomed and it won't fit, really sorry for that.

Don't know if it's possible to have multiple "cropping rectangles" (metadata that tells the player how to crop the image), but
1. If it is possible
2. If it is available in certain container formats (e.g. M2TS, MP4, MKV)
3. If it is available with certain video codec formats (e.g. MPEG2, h264, h265)
4. If it is recognized & honored by certain players
5. If one is given a choice about which version to watch (16:9 or 4:3)

That would be pretty cool.

Is there anything in the existing real world that satisfies all those criteria? I highly doubt it.

It's quite confusing as that thread has a complete initial post and a correct title, but was closed by a moderator because it was deemed a duplicate, while this one is active but has a truncated initial post and a typo in the title. It would be nice, for anyone reading this in the future, if aforementioned moderator could copy the text in the initial post from the other thread, correct the title, then delete that other thread altogether.

Anyway, I'm not sure what the intended purpose is here. The 4:3 version looks good (and is not cropped on the sides, it was originally designed in 4:3 aspect ratio, they should leave it at that, period), the 16:9 version has a quarter of the frame butchered and looks awful, with shifted colors and detailed backgrounds turned into a fuzzy mush. Is this really from an official BRD release that is labeled as a “remaster” ? And what would be the purpose of mixing those two versions, if both have the exact same scenes ?

Yes, i 've misreaeden topic saying this movie had two versions, one 4/3 with more height, one 16/9 with more width, but when i could verify, that was not true. The 4/3 has full frame and 16/9's cropped, sorry.
