  1. I dont get it, ive seen many people compare divx to svcd, what gives?? Ive downloaded divx in the past, but now realize that nothing compares to svcd. You take a divx file, probably around 800meg, the same svcd file is going to be around 1.6gig, and you still think the quality will be the same?? Am i missing something here, is there a way to make divx as crystal clear as svcds are?
Just a question i have had for some time after reading these boards.

  2. iv'e seen some divx that was almost dvd quality and about 2x700meg for a whole movie. How it was done can't say i'm sure but probably a low amount of key frames say 1 per 10 secs, 20 frames per second, as high a bitrate as possible...

  3. Actually I don't think bitrate has to be very high at all. The key to it is in blending a combination of codecs (i.e high and low motion) together to get optimal output. A bit like doing several passes with mpeg encoding. Fairuse is a relatively easy program for Newbies that gives pretty damn good results. Making good DivX's is a relative art form. Many look like crap but good ones look amazing

  4. bilbogod, i suppose i have yet to see a "good one" then. All of the divx i have downloaded in the past have been nothing but crap. If it is a matter of finding which ones are good, why even bother? Atleast you know if you download a svcd the quality is going to be there. Ill stick with the svcds, to be honest, i cant tell the difference between them and the actual dvd, oh wait, yes i can, the dvd hasnt come out yet, thats the difference.
    thanks for the input guys
