I just converted an AVI to MPEG using virtualdub and tmpgenc, mpeg works great through W.M.P., but doesn't work through a VCD player, is there something I didn't do to make this work in a stand alone DVD or VCD player..Is there another step to actually make it VCD or SVCD, I tried reading other posts and guides, and it seems I did everything right.
Am I just a dumb ass or what? Please Help, I have great downloaded movies that I really would like to watch on my tv and NOT my PC![]()

No, you are the "d" word. What template did you use to encode to TMPGEnc? And what program did you use to burn your (S)VCD?
Hello. -
OK, Here's where I really sound like a BIG "D" word, where do you pick the template? and I used aptec easy CD 4

When you captured the video into Virtual Dub, select Video-->Scan video stream for errors. Then select File-->Save wav....
Open TMPGEnc. Close the wizard if it opens. Load the original AVI file as input video, and the saved wav file as input audio. Select Load. Choose either the VCD or the SVCD file for the video format you want. Select Run, and the resulting file should be a good file waiting for your favorite burn program.Hello. -
I did everything but select what format, must have left what ever defaulted and got a regular MPEG, Thanks again for the help, I will try again when I get home from work.
Thank You.. -
For a very first time encoding/converting. I would suggest you use only TMPGenc to do the job.
First you load avi to TMPGenc video and audio source. Second choose the right template and suit for your need such as, videoCD(ntsc), videoCD(ntscfilm), videoCD(pal), or all svcd format. Last burn with NERO.
NOTE: try to go with standard templates which come with TMPGenc first. When you get more used to it and know more about it now you can tweak to whatever you want.
Simple and easy enough if you have all guide available while you doing so.
NOTE: converting Divx to mpeg, you might get some sound problem which always happen with the files d/l from p2p. In this case you have to use V-dub to get wave file out of avi first. You can follow Tommy way by loading avi to Vdub, ignore about error msg, at audio tab choose Full Processing mode, then save wav. Then use this wav file for audio source. Hope this help you. and it's even help you more if you read more on guide and other ppl's experiences in this forum. -
still having trouble...OK, did everything both of you told me, and even have guide in front of me, now I burned cd, but still won't play in stand alone DVD player. says please insert disc, but plays in DVD player on PC.I launched VCDeasy, selected CDRAO Intergration, restarted vcdeasy, selected VCD2.0, picked my writer, selected folder for output file. Every thing burned OK. Was there something I was to do with the bin, or did I miss something. Or is it burned OK, it's just my other equipment, I'm using a Sony DVP-S530D stand alone DVD player and Imation 16X 700MB 80 Min. CDR's. Thanks for the help so far, but please get me the rest of the way, I'm dying to watch some of my downloaded movies on my TV

is there anyone that can help me, I'm trying to read other posts, but haven't come up with the exact problem I'm having to see the cure that was posted. HELP....
-
Shoot!!!!
you should have told me about your player first, so that we don't have to go through all the problems. You can take a look a dvd player complatible list. You will see that your player cannot play anything on CDR (you can serch to find only a few that complatible with your player, thou).
Player list
http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=dvp-s530d&DVDselect=&Search=Search
Now you have to go get the hard to find cdrs in order to burn and watch vcd on your TV. Do some serch in here and you will know a few brands that work. -

However it does not list "CDR" so there is a good chance you wont be able to play "CDR VCD" VCD means they will play commercial "pressed" disks but not ones that are burned. There are times when even those listed with no CDR can play them, but not often.
You need to use a good quality disk, like Maxell or TDK, then make a fully compliant mpeg with TMPGEnc (Load a VCD template) Once you have done that, there is very little else you can do.
I see this DVD player is an old model, maybe its time for an upgrade ? -
Thanks everyone. I see my player is OK with CD-RW, so I tryed it and they worked. Thanks, now I just need to work on cleaning them up a little, very pixelly on TV. Thanks again for help..
